The Billing tab in Settings is where the company owner manages the subscription plan, assigns team seats, and accesses the Stripe billing portal. Other team members see a simplified read-only view — only the owner has full billing access.

Your current plan

What you see in the Billing tab depends on your account status.
If you haven’t subscribed yet, the Billing tab shows your current Free status and three upgrade options:

Click Upgrade on any plan card to start the checkout process.

How to upgrade your plan

Open Settings

Click Settings in the left navigation, then select the Billing tab.

Choose a plan

On the Free plan view, find the plan card that matches your team size and click Upgrade.

Complete checkout

You’ll be taken to Stripe Checkout. Enter your payment details and confirm. After Checkout completes, MERIT updates your workspace access and returns you to the app.

Managing the Stripe billing portal

The Manage billing button (visible to the owner on any paid plan) opens the Stripe customer portal, where you can:
  • Update your payment method or card details
  • View and download past invoices
  • Update billing details
  • Cancel your subscription
Canceling your subscription at the end of the billing period will freeze your workspace. All your data is preserved, but editing will be locked until you reactivate.

Seat management

Seats control which team members have full editing access to your workspace. Seat management appears in the Billing tab for the company owner when the workspace is on a trial or paid plan. The seat summary shows a badge like 2 / 3 seats used and a progress bar so you can see your utilization at a glance. Member list All teammates are listed below the seat summary, sorted in this order: owner first, then full-access members, then read-only members. Each row shows:
  • Avatar, name, and email
  • Owner or admin badge when applicable
  • An access level badge — either Full access or Read-only
Assigning and removing seats
  • Click Assign seat on a read-only member’s row to give them full editing access. If no seats are available, the button is disabled until you remove another seat or upgrade.
  • Click Remove Seat to revert a full-access member to read-only. You cannot remove the owner’s seat.
Only the company owner manages billing and seat assignments. If you’re a team member who needs a seat, ask your company owner to assign one from this tab.

Non-owner view

If you’re not the company owner, the Billing tab shows the current plan and seat count with a message that billing is managed by the owner. You cannot change the subscription, payment method, invoices, or seat assignments from this tab.
