# Networking: connect with other contractors using QR codes

> Use MERIT's QR networking feature to exchange contact information at events and build your professional network.

Every MERIT user has a personal QR code tied to their profile. At industry days, conferences, or MERIT matchmaking events, you can exchange contact information instantly — no business cards, no manual entry. Just scan and connect.

## Where to find your QR code

Go to **Networking** in the left navigation. The **Quick Connect** card shows your personal QR code, with options to view it full size or scan someone else's code.

## Connecting with someone at an event

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the scanner">
    In **Networking**, click **Scan QR Code** and point the scanner at the other person's MERIT QR code. You can also show your own QR code and let them scan you.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the connection">
    After the scan, review the profile preview and confirm that you want to send a connection request.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for acceptance">
    The other person will see the request in their **Received** tab. Until they accept, the request appears in your **Sent** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="They accept">
    Once they accept, you both appear in each other's **Connected** tab. The connection record includes the event context if the scan happened at a MERIT event.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Managing your connections

The Networking section has three tabs:

* **Connected** — mutual, accepted connections. You can view contact details, message the person, or remove the connection.
* **Sent** — requests you've sent that are still pending. You can cancel a pending request from this tab.
* **Received** — incoming requests waiting for your response. Accept or decline each one.

You can switch between list and grid views. The page also includes recent conversations, so you can return to follow-ups without leaving Networking.

## What gets stored

When you connect with someone, MERIT stores the connection between the two profiles and shows available profile/contact details for that person. Depending on what the person has added to their profile, this can include:

* Name, title, company, and profile photo
* Email, phone, website, or LinkedIn details when available
* Where you met or which MERIT event created the connection
* When the connection was added

Either party can remove a connection at any time from the **Connected** tab.

<Tip>
  After an event, check your **Received** tab promptly — connections are most valuable when you follow up while the conversation is still fresh.
