# Team access: invite teammates and manage permissions

> Use invite codes, seats, and owner/admin controls to manage who can join and edit your MERIT workspace.

MERIT uses seats to control who can edit a company workspace. Seated members have full workspace access for normal collaboration. Members without a seat remain read-only until the company owner assigns access.

Owners and admins can create invite codes from **Company** settings. The company owner manages subscription seats from **Billing**.

## Inviting a teammate

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Company settings">
    Click **Settings** in the left navigation and select the **Company** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find Team Invitations">
    Scroll to the invite-code section. Choose the code settings and select **Generate Invite Code**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Share the code">
    Copy the invite code or invite link and send it to your teammate through your normal communication channel.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Teammate joins">
    Your teammate goes to [meritmatch.io](https://meritmatch.io), signs up, and enters the invite code when prompted. MERIT adds them to your company workspace when the code is valid and your workspace has capacity.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review seats">
    If you need to adjust access later, the company owner can open the **Billing** tab and assign or remove seats.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Full Access And Read-Only

<Note>
  Seat changes are handled by the company owner from the Billing tab.
</Note>

In general:

* **Full access** members can collaborate in editable workspace areas, including pipeline and pursuit work.
* **Read-only** members can view workspace information but cannot make paid-workspace edits.
* **Owner/admin controls** are separate from seat access. Administrative actions such as creating invite codes, managing company-level access, and billing changes depend on your company role.

## Seat limits by plan

Each plan includes a set number of seats. Check the **Billing** tab to see your current seat count, how many seats are in use, and whether more seats are available.

The owner's seat cannot be removed. If you need more seats than your current plan allows, upgrade from the **Billing** tab.

## Managing invite codes

The invite-code list in **Company** settings shows existing codes, their status, and their usage. Depending on your role, you can copy an invite code, copy an invite link, deactivate a code, or delete old codes.

Invite codes can be limited by expiration or number of uses. If a teammate cannot join, check that the code is still active and that your workspace has available seat capacity.

## Removing seat access

Seats can be revoked from the **Billing** tab by selecting **Remove seat** next to a member's name. This changes the member to read-only access; it does not remove their account from MERIT.
