# Profile settings: update your personal information

> Edit your name, job title, bio, contact info, and profile photo from the Profile tab in Settings.

Your profile is how other MERIT users — teammates, partners, and event contacts — see you on the platform. You can update it from the **Profile** tab inside **Settings**. Settings includes **Profile**, **Company**, **Events**, and, depending on your access, **Billing**.

## What you can edit

Most text fields on the Profile tab save automatically as you type. You'll see a spinning indicator while the save is in progress, then a green checkmark when it's done. Roles, email changes, and profile photos use their own controls.

**Name and contact info**

* **First Name** and **Last Name** — your display name across the platform
* **Phone Number** — your work phone or preferred contact number
* **LinkedIn Profile URL** — links to your public LinkedIn profile

**Professional details**

* **Job Title** — shown on your networking card and profile
* **Professional Bio** — a short description of your background and expertise. A character counter helps you keep it concise. This field saves a moment after you stop typing.

**Roles and responsibilities**

Check any that apply to your day-to-day work:

* Business Development
* Human Resources
* Program Management
* Leadership
* Other — selecting this reveals a text box where you can describe your role in your own words

**Profile photo**

Your avatar shows your initials by default. To add or replace a photo:

1. Click **Upload New Photo**
2. Choose a JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, or WebP file — maximum 5 MB. MERIT may compress supported image uploads.
3. For best results, use a square image at least 400×400 pixels.

If you already have a photo, a **Remove** button appears next to the upload option.

## Changing your email address

Your current email address is displayed as read-only. If your account uses email/password sign-in, you'll see a **Change** button next to your email address.

  Email changes require your current password. After you submit a new email address, MERIT sends a verification link to the new address. Your email does not change until you click that link. Make sure to check your inbox and spam folder to complete the update.

If your account does not use email/password sign-in, the **Change** option may not appear.

## Tips

<Tip>
  Keep your bio and job title current — they appear on your networking QR card when you scan contacts at events, and on any teaming partner profiles that come across your way.
