# Gate fill: draft empty Gate Tracker fields

> Use MERIT Assistant to suggest values for empty Gate Tracker fields, then review and apply the suggestions you want to keep.

Gate fill helps you move faster when a pursuit has missing Gate Tracker fields. MERIT Assistant can draft suggested values for empty fields in the stage you are viewing, then you decide which suggestions belong in the capture record.

Nothing saves automatically. Reviewing suggestions, selecting checkboxes, or dismissing the panel does not change the pursuit. Fields update only when you apply selected suggestions.

## Run gate fill

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Gate Tracker">
    Open a pursuit workspace, click **Gate Tracker**, and select **Fields**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the stage">
    Use the stage tabs to select **Identification**, **Qualification**, or **Capture**. Gate fill drafts suggestions for the selected stage.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Fill with MERIT Assistant">
    At the top of the **Fields** tab, click **Fill with MERIT Assistant**. MERIT starts drafting suggestions for fields in that stage that do not already have values.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the suggestions">
    Each suggestion shows the field name, a proposed value, a confidence label, and a short rationale. Low-confidence suggestions are shown for review but are not selected by default.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Apply selected suggestions">
    Select the suggestions you want to keep, then click **Apply**. To close the panel without saving any suggestions, click **Dismiss**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  You need edit access to the pursuit to use gate fill. Read-only users can view pursuit information but cannot apply assistant-generated field suggestions.
</Note>

## What gate fill uses

Gate fill uses the pursuit information and Gate Tracker values already available for the opportunity. The more context your team has entered, the more useful the suggestions are likely to be.

Before running gate fill, it helps to fill in obvious basics such as the opportunity title, agency or customer, notice type, key dates, and a short description if you have them.

## Empty fields only

Gate fill is designed to help with missing information. It skips fields that already have values, so it will not overwrite existing Gate Tracker content.

If you want to change a field that is already filled in, edit that field directly in the tracker.

## Review confidence

Confidence labels help you prioritize review:

* **High** means MERIT found stronger support in the available pursuit context.
* **Medium** means the suggestion may be useful, but should still be checked.
* **Low** means the assistant had limited context and left the suggestion unselected.

Use these labels as review cues, not as guarantees. Always check assistant-generated content before applying it to a pursuit.

## Supported stages

Gate fill works in all three Gate Tracker stages:

* **Identification**
* **Qualification**
* **Capture**

The suggestions are based on the stage you are viewing when you click **Fill with MERIT Assistant**.

## Usage limits

Gate fill has usage limits to keep MERIT Assistant responsive. If you reach a limit, MERIT will show an error message and let you know when to try again.
